New York Fashion Week is always an exciting time in the city, but there was something particularly special about celebrating it with a little taste of home!
This New York Fashion Week, AWNY brought our community together at WeWearAustralian in SoHo for an evening celebrating Australian fashion, creativity and the incredible talent making its mark in New York.
As guests walked through the doors at 69 Mercer Street, it felt a little like stepping into Australia in the heart of New York. From the thoughtful Australian-inspired décor to the warm and welcoming team, the stunning clothes and, of course, the Akubras, WeWearAustralian really does feel like a hug from home.
The evening gave guests the chance to hear directly from WeWearAustralian founders Kelly Atkinson and Richard Poulson, who shared fascinating insights into their careers, their journey to New York and the purpose behind creating a permanent home for Australian fashion in the United States.
Their story is a testament to what can happen when Australian creativity, ambition and a willingness to take a risk come together. What began as a movement to support Australian designers has evolved into a permanent SoHo destination, bringing more than 30 brands together and creating a bridge between Australian design and the global fashion market.
It’s a very special place.
Walking through the store, there’s no shortage of fashion inspiration. It’s a wonderful reminder of the creativity, individuality and craftsmanship that make Australian design so distinctive. WeWearAustralian is creating an exciting platform for both emerging designers and established Australian brands to make their mark in the NYC market, while offering shoppers a carefully curated collection of beautiful, distinctive pieces that are difficult to find anywhere else in the Northern Hemisphere.
For AWNY, the evening was also about more than fashion. It was about bringing our community
together, celebrating Australian talent and creating connections between women building their lives and careers in New York.

welcoming AWNY so warmly and giving us such a wonderful space to celebrate. And thank you to everyone who came along and made the night such a memorable one.
With the event selling out in just three hours, it’s clear there was plenty of appetite for more. So, watch this space as AWNY will be looking to make our next fashion event even bigger to give more of our community the chance to come together and celebrate Australian fashion in New York.
