Last week, AWNY and Broadway Rise partnered to host our very first musical theatre workshop for Aussie and Kiwi kids—and it was a big hit!
The workshop gave 20 young performers the opportunity to step into the world of Broadway, guided by experienced and inspiring teaching artists. From the moment the music started, the room was buzzing with excitement, confidence, and a shared love of performing.
The children learned choreography and actions to the High School Musical favourite “We’re All In This Together,” building skills in movement, rhythm, and stage presence—all while having loads of fun along the way.
“Connecting with young Australians and New Zealanders through theater feels especially meaningful here in New York, the theater capital of the world,” said Eloise Ghislaine, Australian-born founder of Broadway Rise. “The level of talent and energy the kids brought into the room was honestly incredible — they showed up open, curious, and ready to give it a go.”
For many participants, the experience was about more than learning dance steps. It was a chance to try something new, connect with other Aussie and Kiwi kids living in New York, and feel part of a supportive community that celebrates creativity and confidence. Parents enjoyed a short performance at the end of the workshop and were impressed by how much their children had learned in such a short time.
This workshop is hoped to be the first of many as part of the AWNY x Broadway Rise partnership. If you’re interested in future workshops for elementary school–aged children or teens, please email us at awnykidsevents@gmail.com
