The sun is out – the days are getting longer and summer is fast approaching. There is so much “What’s On in New York June 2018” that I could fill a book.
Here is a small selection of great ways to enjoy NYC this June:
Two AWNY events to mark in your calendars:
June 10: AWNY Picnic in the Park
Calling all Australian and Kiwi families and friends! Please join us for a fun day out at the annual AWNY Picnic at Central Park. BYO picnic blankets, food and drinks, and your enthusiasm for some cricket, kids’ activities and Tim Tam prizes!
June 20: Humming Puppy Yoga with Jackie Alexander
Join AWNY for a yoga class at Humming Puppy Yoga with Jackie Alexander.
June 5 – 29: New York Classical Theatre Company
No tickets, no lines! Just Pack a Picnic then follow the performers of New York Classical Theatre Company as they perform “Romeo and Juliet “ in five parks this summer. Beginning in Central Park. Cost is donation only. All performances at 7PM.
May 29 – June 24: Shakespeare in the Park – “Othello”
Free tickets are distributed on each performance day via the free lines at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Free tickets are distributed at noon every day that there is a public performance. Seat locations are distributed randomly, not based on a person’s position in the line.
June 1-30: Blue Note Jazz Festival
Like a little Jazz? Over a hundred events held in ten venues throughout NYC.
June 7 – July 1: Nick Cave’s “The Let Go” at the Park Avenue Armory
Artist Nick Cave creates a dance-based town hall – part installation, part performance – to which the community of New York is invited to “let go” and speak their minds through movement.
June 9: Queens Night Market
How about a little adventure to Flushing, Queens? Held in the New York Hall of Science precinct every Saturday night from 6pm until midnight, the Queens International Night Market is a large, family friendly open-air night market.
June 9, 10am – 2pm: The Great Randall’s Island Treasure Hunt
Plenty of fun for the whole family. Unlock Island secrets, search for treasure, and explore Randall’s Island Park in this free event.
June 12, 6-9pm: Annual Museum Mile Festival NYC
One day per year, many of the museums along Museum Mile allow free access. Fifth Ave is closed to traffic and lined with live bands, art and entertainment. This event will take place rain or shine at 5th Ave, 82nd – 105th St.

June 13, July 11: This Alien Nation at Joe’s Pub
Host and creator, Sofija Stefanovic, newly back in New York from her Australian book tour, welcomes some of her favorite outsiders for a celebration of immigration! Hear some fish-out-of-water tell true tales from their lives: anecdotes about language barriers, cultural missteps, rumbles, romance, and more!
June 14: Vance Joy at the BRIC Festival
Want to hear a little Aussie Music? Vance Joy is just one of the wonderful performers at the BRIC Festival this June. Other featured artists include The Decemberists, Grizzly Bear, Spoon, and Jenn Mundia.
Monday Nights: Bryant Park Movie Nights
Take some friends and watch one of the scheduled movies in the shadow of the magnificent Public Library Building in beautiful Bryant Park.
Catch and Release Fishing at Central Park
Did you know that you can borrow fishing rods in central Park and do a little “catch and release fishing”. The rods are available at the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center.
