AWNY’s Emotional Transition to New York events have enjoyed successful attendance and very positive feedback for both 2015 and 2016 events. An active committee member with AWNY, Susie Lang is offering a series of sessions to complement her successful Emotional Transitions event. As one attendee noted;

“It became really clear that sometimes I needed a support network to help me explore my feelings, and to navigate a path towards personal healing”

Susie Lang is passionate about helping individuals take the next steps towards your personal transitional process.

You have moved continents, but have you ‘Moved On’?

The process of moving between cultures brings up questions, uncertainties and unfamiliar emotions;

  • The loss of all things familiar
  • Lack of personal confidence
  • Feelings of grief
  • Feeling unsettled, dissatisfied, always drawing comparisons
  • Loss of Identity

Did you know that feeling “home-sick” is part of the process of transition & healing?  Losses and gains are the bitter/sweet feelings surrounding transitions.  However, before the gains can be really appreciated and lived, the losses need some air-time in the company of others who share similar feelings!

“…women were contributing in such an honest way, about a difficult topic, and I felt it was an expression closer to one shared between trusted friends, rather than strangers”

What it’s all about?

On the Sofa with Susie is an opportunity to take deep dive at some of the questions that may arise when moving to a different culture – while there are similarities, differences also emerge while making your transition to New York City.  Have you ever asked yourself

  • “Why did I choose to come here”?
  • “Who am I”?
  • “What’s wrong with me?”
  • When in this new culture questions are being asked, “Who are you?”

Still on the Fence?

Feeling a little unsure? Wonder if this is for you? It’s very natural to feel this way…register and come along – you’ll be glad you did!

“… it was a really fantastic way to cut through the bullshit and talk about some of the more isolating aspects of living in this fabulous city… Susie created a ‘safe space’ for me to admit and to own my unspoken emotions – that feels fantastic!”

These sessions are offered to the AWNY community, as a weekly informal on-going gathering over a 4-week period.  As part of a small supportive expat group, you will feel less isolated, make new connections, and explore some of your questions and uncertainties.

On the Sofa with Susie will enable you to make your cultural transition easier, culminating in a sense of direction and feeling more “at home”.
