AWNY Picks: What’s On in September in NYC

Ok girls – we don’t get a lot of long weekends in this mad city so I hope you’ve all got a stacked Labor Day weekend planned. Or a lazy one filled with brunches and strolls. I don’t mind which – just enjoy it! To kick off the month, AWNY have put together a list of favourite city events to help keep you busy and entertained as we head into fall. Oh – and if you haven’t experienced the amazing space that is the Met rooftop yet, now is your chance (check out the first event on the list below for details).

Join AWNY for the PsychoBarn RooftopDrink at the Met on September 9th (yes, next Friday!) from 5PM. Enjoy gorgeous views of Central Park from one of Manhattan’s best rooftop spaces and catch up with your AWNY friends. Cash bar, plus museum admission fee. Check out the Facebook event page for more details.

Another awesome AWNY event is coming up on September 17th. Join the Loudest Yeller Bicycle Tour of Cultural and Historical Manhattan and Brooklyn. We’ve made it easy for you – just turn up (no need to have your own bike or helmet) and there’ll be lots of refueling stops along the route. Starts at 10AM and takes the day – well worth it though! Details on the Facebook event page.

If you haven’t secured your Labor Day weekend plans yet, then check out the Unicycle Festival on Governors Island, running from 1PM-5PM on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th September. Think unicycle races, inventors showing off their one-wheeled creations, extreme sports on one wheel – you name it. Great fun for all ages. More information via the festival website.

Attention art lovers! Washington Square has over 120 artists displaying their work on the sidewalk on September 3-5 and 10-11. Plus Agora Gallery is displaying the work of Aussie artists Cindy Parsley and Jacky Cheng through til September 15th. Visit the gallery’s website for opening times.

One of the great things about living in New York is the ability to see iconic performers for bargain prices. Bryan Adams performs on September 7th at the Coney Island Boardwalk and tickets are still available for $40, Culture Club and Boy George perform at the same venue on September 8th with tickets from $20, and The Beach Boys are on in Central Park on September 14th with tickets at $50.

Free Museum Day – grab 2 free tix to over 98 museums in New York State (including 16 in Manhattan) on September 24th and get your culture on! Full list of participating museums available here. Tip: If you haven’t seen the Cooper Hewitt yet, this could be your opp!
