Spring has finally sprung and I’m sure we’re all enjoying the warmer weather. Here are a few ideas of interesting things that are on offer for April/May and beyond.
Glittering World: Navajo Jewelry of the Yazzie Family – November 13, 2014 to January 10, 2016 – Glittering World presents the story of Navajo jewelry through the lens of the gifted Yazzie family of Gallup, New Mexico—one of the most celebrated jewelry making families of our time.
Audubon’s Aviary: The Final Flight (Part III of the Complete Flock) – 6 March to May 10 – Part III of the highly acclaimed tripartite series Audubon’s Aviary: The Complete Flock will continue showcasing masterpieces from the New-York Historical Society collection of John James Audubon’s preparatory watercolors for the sumptuous double-elephant-folio print edition of The Birds of America(1827–38), engraved by Robert Havell Jr. Part III of The Complete Flock will highlight Audubon’s watercolor models for Havell plates 306–435 (fascicles 62–87). At this time he was rushing to complete his great work and, therefore, represented the outliers and western species to bookend the North American continent.
Bjork Retrospective at MoMA – March 8 to June 7
Basquiat at Brooklyn Museum – April 3 to August 23
Smorgasburg recommences on April 4 – this is a fantastic food festival on the banks of the East River at Williamsburg.
The Annual Easter Parade and Easter Bonnet Festival – April 5
Comedy Week – April 6 to 19
Tribeca Film Festival – April 15 to 26
Cherry Blossoms and Sakura Matsuri – Some of the best display of cherry blossoms outside of Japan can be seen at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden during April. Celebrate the Sakura Matsuri festival on the weekend of April 25 to April 26 – A weekend celebrating traditional and contemporary Japanese culture
