Starbucks has recently introduced the ‘Flat White’ indicating that the Aussie-Kiwi special is becoming seriously hot as a menu item.

NYC has experienced a coffeelution! I am addicted to coffee, so it’s been a mission of mine to locate good Aussie-esque coffee while living in the city.
Sing hallelujah… the coffee Gods have answered my prayers as Australians are taking over the coffee scene in the city and are declaring a full-on Down Under coffee invasion. So for all the Aussie coffee junkies who have pounded the pavements of Manhattan yearning for a real caffeine fix in a cup and not in a bucket, can now order a proper Australian flat white without the fear of facing a blank stare and prolonged withdrawal symptoms. Hooray!
Australian-backed spots such as Café Grumpy (as seen on Girls on HBO), Culture Espresso Bar and Laughing Man Espresso (owned by our very own Hugh Jackman) have all been holding it down (and quite well, might I add) locally for the signature coffee drink of the Antipodes.
After living in the concrete jungle for almost 3 years now, I must admit that I still get homesick at times. But my newfound L.O.V.E is Bluestone Lane Coffee, which has now opened 4 spots in the city. The accents are a dead set give away as Bluestone originates from Melbourne, with the founder Nick Stone building the vision while attending Business School in New York. From the fairy lit ceiling, to the gluten free treats… to the plants potted in glass jars and the heated yard out back… if you want to feel like you’re at the beach when you’re in the West Village, this is where you need to go.
It’s so chilled and relaxed, the real draw though for me is breakfast all day. Some of my favorite things on the menu are the Avo Smash which is great with a poached egg or the coconut quinoa porridge, which has baked peaches, raspberries, almonds, vanilla cashew cream, and toasted coconut slices. And do not forget to try what these guys are famous for, their flat white. Trust me, you will be transported back home.
Now, with all these spanking-new New York shops specializing in flat whites, the Aussie homeland drink is fast becoming ubiquitous!!!
