It’s rare you go a day without hearing an Aussie accent around NYC anymore. There may come a time when you’ve exhausted your secret vegemite supplies and you find yourself nostalgic for an edible piece of home though. When that day comes, go no further than the aptly named Flinders Lane in the East Village. A delicious piece of Melbourne in Manhattan.

Flinders Lane has a dreamy candle lit ambiance. Delicately juxtaposed to the concrete and graffiti wall backdrop. Throw in soothing tunes, tall timber tables and a very well stocked bar, and you’ve got just the right ingredients to create an accurate replication of that romantic edgy vibe we love about Melbourne.
I’ve only been in New York a short while, yet I do find myself missing the clean simple designer foods from the motherland (with perhaps a little less salt and sauce you come to expect in America). Enter chic poached chicken salad with crispy colorful shredded salad leaves and perfect ratio of peanuts.
Very tasty choice and reasonably priced at $13. Washed down with a glass of Pewsey Vale Riesling, I was feeling well taken care of. Wonderful service and a lovely little haven in our home away from home. Will be back again soon!
