After a particularly cold and snowy New York winter, it was a joy to see so many AWNY families out and about, making the most of a picture-perfect spring Sunday together.
The afternoon began with more than 40 AWNY parents and children enjoying a delightful performance of Carnival of the Animals by New York Theatre Ballet. Featuring an array of wonderful animal costumes—from lions and elephants to fish, birds, and horses—the production was a visual treat. A special highlight for our group was the appearance of a playful kangaroo and her joey, an obvious crowd favorite for the Australians!

From there, we made our way to Central Park, where even more AWNY families joined us, including several attending their very first event. It was wonderful to welcome new faces and enjoy a chat as the kids explored the Billy Johnson Playground… stopping playing only to ask, time and again, “How much longer until the Easter egg hunt?”

As it turned out, our much-anticipated annual Easter egg hunt was more of an Easter egg scattering, with colorful eggs spread across a grassy lawn for 30+ eager children to collect. In true AWNY spirit, the older kids made sure the little ones were well looked after, and everyone left with full baskets and even bigger smiles.
Days like these are a wonderful reminder of the strong, supportive community we’ve built here in New York. AWNY is proud to host regular family-friendly events throughout the year, creating opportunities for connection, friendship, and shared experiences for members and their families.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so special. Your energy, warmth, and generous contributions of Easter treats brought a true sense of Aussie and Kiwi community to life. We look forward to seeing you at our next family event!
