This new off-Broadway musical version of Picnic at Hanging Rock, featuring music and arrangements by AWNY member Greta Gertler Gold and book and lyrics by Hilary Bell, brings Joan Lindsay’s captivating mystery to the New York stage for the first time since the book’s publication in 1967 and Peter Weir’s iconic 1975 film mesmerized audiences worldwide.
Set against a backdrop of Australia’s wild natural beauty, the musical explores the fates of spirited young women determined to navigate the constraints of their futures. It also brings a compelling First Nations perspective to light.
