New to New York? The 4th of July is one of America’s biggest celebrations, packed with backyard BBQs, fireworks, beach days, and all sorts of revelry nationwide. Good news: NYC has plenty of ways for you to join the fun!
The city’s sky will light up like never before this Independence Day as the 49th annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks return to their traditional East River home. After a brief stint on the Hudson last year, four barges will launch an astonishing 80,000 shells a thousand feet into the air, promising a dazzling display visible from prime spots across lower Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Best Viewing Spots
For an unforgettable view, head to the east side of Manhattan. The barges will launch fireworks near South Street Seaport, and displays will also launch from both ends of the Brooklyn Bridge. Waterfront spots like Transmitter Park in Greenpoint, Domino Park in Williamsburg, and the recently opened East River Park are likely to be very popular, so pack the sunscreen and arrive early! The show typically starts around 9:25pm.

Rival views will be offered from the towering height of The One World Observatory’s ONE Dine restaurant. This one appears to be fully booked, so try your luck with the waitlist.

Unique Viewing Parties
There are plenty of rooftop bars and hotels offering Fourth of July experiences, some with and some without views of the fireworks. We recommend you do your research and purchase tickets in advance to avoid surprises on the day. Here are some ideas to get you started…
Bar Blondeau in Williamsburg is partnering with Natoora to transform their rooftop into a farm-to-table urban garden party from 3pm. Locally farmed vegetables, fresh-harvested oysters, and craft spirits are just some of the delicious peak summer treats to enjoy.
Somewhere Nowhere is going big with a choice of two sunset parties, each with views of the fireworks. Secure your spot poolside outdoors with a DJ and a BBQ summer menu, or make it an indoor occasion in the lounge.
Virgin Hotels NYC in NoMad is hosting a Firework Viewing Party on the 38th floor, featuring DJ Select and pre-fireworks entertainment. While nearby buildings may partially obstruct visibility, the lively atmosphere and prime location ensure a memorable evening.
More Celebrations
Join the excitement of Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, a beloved tradition on Coney Island. Contestants devour hot dogs and buns in a race against the clock. For a musical celebration, the Westlight at The William Vale in Brooklyn can be a reliable option, often hosting multi-day festivals with DJs spinning beats on rooftop decks, offering stunning views of Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Beachside Escapes
Prefer a beach day instead of waiting hours for the fireworks? Try Coney Island or less crowded shores like Jacob Riis or the Rockaways, NYC’s beaches offer a refreshing retreat close to home.
Whether you prefer waterfront views, rooftop parties, or cruise adventures, there’s something for everyone to make this Independence Day truly special.
