The Sparklings
Karatta Sparkling Shiraz-Cabernet NV For those wanting something a little different to kick off this holiday season, Karatta’s sparkling shiraz from Robe in South Australia will hit the spot. Think of cherries, licorice, and blackberry with balanced tannins and sweet fruit spices. Hot tip: This wine is perfect to drink with your favorite cheeses and charcuterie.
Clover Hill Brut MV Pyrenees Don’t let the name fool you, this delightful sparkling is from Tasmania, sharing not just mountainous terrain with its namesake but brioche notes.

The Whites
Point Ormond Sauvignon Blanc 2024, Western Australia While Port Ormond is known for curating grapes from a range of different locations, this wine encapsulates the tropical passionfruit notes known to the Western Australian white grape. Tip: A great wine to whip out during the cheese starters and for those promising an Aussie taster of prawns before the main course!
Hare & Tortoise Pinot Gris 2024, King Valley A small but mighty vineyard in regional Victoria, this Pinot Gris (or Pinot Grigio for the Italians!) is a bright and aromatic wine with a mouth-filling burst of fruit flavor. Tip: Refreshing for those dry winter days, or for those cured meat lovers who have worked up quite a thirst early in the day.

The Reds
Project K ‘SPN’ Shiraz-Pinot Noir 2021, Adelaide Hills If the name does pique your interest, the promise of a hybrid of grape varieties should! A savory blend of tart cherries and spice is where we really get into the cold weather festive spirit. Project K is a natural wine project by Nova Vita with fruit from the Adelaide Hills. The key principles of the project are small batch, field blends, natural yeasts, minimal sulphur and no fining or filtration. Tip: While we are told it’s food-flexible, I think the cherry flavor will accompany turkey very well.
Alkoomi Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, Frankland River, Western Australia My favorite review of this wine said it should be paired with Sticky Texan skyle BBQ beef short ribs. While I’m not sure that dish will be on many Christmas Day menus, I thought it was a quintessential hybrid of complimentary American and Australian food and wine combos. I also saw plenty of Alkoomi wines on BuyAussieWine.com including a Riesling, and if you’re anything like me you will be missing the dry Aussie Riesling. Tip: This will be great for any red meat you serve up during the holidays!
