Curious about attending the event but maybe you’re feeling a little nervous? Cyndi has answered a few questions to put you at ease.
What inspired you to become a sexologist and specialize in helping individuals with intimacy and relationship challenges?
Sex is fascinating and through sex we can learn so much about ourselves and each other. It’s a portal to greater self awareness. There’s also a lot of misinformation around, and a lack of knowledge about how to integrate what we read. My specialty is helping people make meaningful connections between body, mind and heart.
Can you provide a sneak peek into the key topics you’ll address during the event, Intimacy & Pleasure Unveiled?
They will largely be decided by the attendees but hot topics include desire, mismatched desire in partnerships, open relationships, am I normal, orgasms, dating (at any age), and especially dating over 40, redefining intimacy, dirty talk, and so much more.
In what ways can attendees expect to benefit from attending this event, both personally and in terms of their relationships?
Like with anything we get out of it what we put in. Take advantage of the anonymous Q&A session both before and during. You’ll discover that your question is a sigh of relief for everyone in the room. There are no crazy sex questions and most are more common than you think.
What are some common misconceptions or myths about womxn’s wellness and intimacy that you plan to debunk during the event?
Being good in bed is XYZ. Why do we even have sex? Only young, hot, slim people have great sex. Why am I wet, but not in the mood? Is watching porn OK? Solo pleasure vs. partnered pleasure…what’s up with that? How can I be more spontaneous in bed? Are my fantasies normal?
How important is inclusivity and diversity in fostering meaningful conversations about intimacy and pleasure?
It’s not only important, it’s essential. Human sexuality is an incredibly broad and ever expanding universe of possibilities. All my presentations centre expansive, honest sexuality at their core including speaking to people of different genders, orientations, practices and relationship styles. I advocate for and support LGBTIQA+, polyamorous, kink and sex work communities globally.
What advice do you have for individuals who may be hesitant or nervous about attending such an event for the first time?
Of course you’re nervous. We rarely see sexuality displayed in life and the media in meaningful ways. Most of what we get is based in Hollywood fantasy (including romcoms, Disney love stories and porno fantasies) – all of which offer us entertainment but do very little to help us make sense of the role of sex in our lives in meaningful and useful ways. It’s normal to feel trepidation beginning to explore sex. Bring a buddy. Have a drink and a snack and enjoy learning about sex in ways that destigmatize pleasure and emphasise erotic intelligence.
