On Wednesday, October 18th, a wonderful group of about 50 AWNY volunteers, members—and Aussie and Kiwi women interested in joining the organization—gathered in the beautiful Monash Room at The Australian Consulate General in New York for our Annual General Meeting and Fall Fling.
We noshed on cheese and charcuterie platters, sipped on a variety of Australian wines, and spent the first moments networking and getting to know one another. In attendance were the Australian Consul-General of New York, Heather Ridout AM, and her Deputy Consul General, Karina Soltyszewski, along with American Australian Association Chief Operating Officer Libbi Swan.
Our meeting kicked off with a heartfelt and gracious introduction from our new Patron, Heather Ridout before President Jacquelyn Drozdoff took to the mic. Jacquelyn has spent the past three years as AWNY President, guiding us through the pandemic and helping our teams get back into in-person activities throughout the last two years. Touching on her transition to Senior Advisor, she introduced our new Co-Presidents for this coming season, Sarah McLellan Mee and Toni Wendtmann. Toni and Sarah have helped to lead our Events and Communications teams throughout the past year and will be invaluable to us in their new positions.
Our current leadership committee members walked the attendees through our teams and how we all step up to keep AWNY thriving with our various responsibilities. From communications and its touchpoints to the website, our social media, and newsletters, to the exciting events and communities teams, our wonderful Aussie & Kiwi families committee, and our new partnerships team—the coming year for our organization is set to be filled with activity and connection.
For those who missed the AGM and are still interested in volunteering, we’d love to hear from you. We have an online sign-up for interest HERE.
Thank you to each and every one of you who attended on the night, and a big cheers to our wonderful volunteers who made the AGM a success. And lastly, a huge thank you to the Australian Consulate for hosting us and Gabby, Alexandra, Karina, and Heather for the gracious welcome.
