AWNY’s tips for Restaurant Week, Summer 2022

Do you have an endless list of must-dine restaurants that you just never seem to make any progress on? Well, Restaurant Week might just be the motivation you need to visit some of NYC’s greatest dine-in venues.

The biannual Restaurant Week taking place in winter and summer encourages locals and tourists alike to visit a host of different restaurants across the city. After a rough few years, these restaurants are showcasing their best dishes to bring back diners all over the city.

Until mid August, you can check out restaurants offering lunch and dinner specials, with many offering two and three course set menus for discount prices. A few noticeable inclusions that struck our AWNY members are below.

Is this the excuse you needed to visit some of NYC’s finest restaurants?

Australian restaurants

Isla: Serving up South East Asian and Southern European inspired Australian food, Isla is offering $60 Dinner Monday-Friday at their midtown location. Isla & Co. across in Williamsburg is offering $30 lunches and $45 dinners.

Hole in the Wall: with three venues on the list, Hole in the Wall offers $30 Lunch and $45 Dinner, Monday to Friday until early August.

Top Notch Steakhouses

Gallaghers Steakhouse: Known as one of the finest steakhouses in NYC, Gallaghers in the theatre district was once a speakeasy but now 80 years later, is one of NYC’s signature establishments. Visit across restaurant week to enjoy $30 lunches Monday to Friday and $30 Sunday Lunch/Brunch.

Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse New York: Only available for a limited time, Del Frisco’s is offering $60 lunches, Monday to Friday.

Benjamin Steakhouse: Another mammoth location, Benjamin Steakhouse in Midtown East is offering a $45 Lunch and $60 Dinner, Monday to Friday until late in August.

Classic NY Dining Spots

Slyvia’s: The famous Harlem restaurant known for its soul food will be offering $45 lunch and dinner specials on weeknights only

2nd Ave Deli: If you ever wanted to try a legit New York Jewish deli now is the time! One of the city’s best-known delis will be offering $45 lunch and dinner specials during the week with potential option for Sunday (recommend checking directly with them if you are planning to go on a Sunday).

Fraunces Tavern: One of the oldest pubs in NY, it was a popular spot for some of the city’s earliest settlers. Today, the restaurant is next to a small but very interesting museum on the early days of NY and will offer $60 weeknight dinner specials. If you have time beforehand, the museum is well worth a visit!

Rooftops (to make the most of summer 2022!)

STK Rooftop: between July 18- August 21, this rooftop steakhouse (best of both worlds!) is offering $60 Dinners Monday to Friday and $30 Sunday Lunch/Brunch, $60 Sunday Dinners. STK also have two other venues on the list but these are sans rooftop.

Gallow Green: perfect for a summer night, this green foliage covered restaurant is located on top of the The McKittrick Hotel, is offering three course dinners for $60 until late August, Monday-Friday.

Tavern on the Green: ok so this may not be a rooftop but they do have a lovely patio and you’re right in Central Park! They will be offering $45 lunch and $60 dinner specials, a perfect way to enjoy a warm NY summer evening!

Notable mentions:

Sant Ambroeus—SoHo: this highly recommended restaurant offers Northern Italian cuisine, and across restaurant week has $30 Lunches and $45 Dinners, Monday to Friday, and $30 Sunday Lunch/Brunch and $45 Sunday Dinner.

The Dining Room at Gramercy Tavern: now this one might be a stretch to manage, only offering lunch time specials mid week across restaurant week but for those with a more flexible schedule it might be worth checking out $60 lunches until late August.

Pete’s Tavern: is one of my favorite bars in Manhattan (it helps it’s located very close to my apartment), and is perfect in summer for a beer in the sun. Across restaurant week they are offering $30 Lunch, $45 Dinner Monday to Friday, and $45 Sunday Dinners.
