In the lead up to Easter Sunday on April 17th, 2022, several brick and mortar bakeries in New York are offering hot cross buns (also known as “Easter buns”). Or shop from online bakers for delivery across the USA.

There are plenty of amazing Australian owned bakeries and coffee shops in NYC, and we found hot cross buns at the following bakeries:

Aussie Pies and Sausages
Hot cross bums (no that’s not a typo!) are available to order from February 5th. They’re limited edition so get off your bum and order quick sticks! (online)

Australian Bakery Cafe
Fresh, delicious, five-star rated hot cross buns are available to order online now. These are the real deal just like your Granny used to make: yeasty, with golden raisins, currants and lots of mixed spices. There are traditional buns and a chocolate variation. Available ALL YEAR! (online)

Of course, the cross is baked right in, NOT painted on with icing!

Bourke Street Bakery NYC
Get ready for two varieties on offer this year: The classic with orange, currants and spices, AND chocolate with Belgian chocolate, currants, orange and spices. Plus the tops are garnished with either a plain icing or a chocolate icing. These pillowy soft buns are sold individually or in cute crates of 6 buns! Available from March 24th to April 17th they sell out quickly so pre-orders are welcome. The cutest little cafe we ever did see, Gertrude are baking small batch, home made, always with orange peel, hot cross buns from late March up to Easter Sunday on April 17th. You can pre-order online (follow on Insta for updates on when pre-orders open) for pick up Friday to Sunday. And there are very limited quantities to purchase daily from Thursday April 14th – Easter Sunday. (UWS – 96th between Amsterdam and Broadway)

Anyone who has browsed the aisles of a typical New York grocery store, will be familiar with boxed baked goods from Entenmann’s. As Easter approaches, Entenmann’s releases boxed hot cross buns. Check their store locator for a supplier near you.
