Anzac Day in NYC, 2019

This year Anzac Day falls on Thursday April 25, 2019. Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance for Australian and New Zealand women and men who served in all wars to defend their country.

We pay our respects to all those who have served in our militaries and reflect on their courage and sacrifice. We remember those who never returned, those who were injured from battle and those who maintained the home front. We acknowledge those who are currently serving. 

For Australian and New Zealanders far from home in New York, we can come together to pay our respects and commemorate Anzac Day in NYC through the following events:

Anzac Day Catering Discounts

Australian Bakery Cafe
Aussie bakery based in Marietta, Georgia is offering Anzac Day specials via online ordering, including Anzac biscuits, meat pies, sausage rolls, sausages for the bbq. (Online)

Butler Bakery Michelin Quality Treats
Williamsburg’s Butler Bakery and Coffee Shop will be offering Anzac biscuits as a special treat for Anzac Day this year. They are available for pre-order catering or in-store until stocks last. They also offer sausage rolls as part of their every day menu.

Down Under Bakery (DUB) Pies
DUB Pies will be offering a 15 % discount for early bird orders for hot food catering. The promo code is AprilAWNY19 and is valid until midnight April 5th. Email info@dubpies.com and mention the code. DUB pies ships on Mondays, with the default date being 4/8/19. Tuesday, April 23rd

Dusk Service, co-hosted by the New Zealand and Australian Consuls-General
In 2019 the Australian and New Zealand Military Advisers, in combination with the Australian Consul-General Mr. Alastair Walton and the office of the New Zealand Consulate General, represented by Acting Trade Commissioner Ms. Maire Barry will co-host the Tuesday evening dusk service.

This is a traditional church memorial service followed by light refreshments. Attendees will be strictly selected via the ballot, due to VERY limited capacity at the Rockefeller Center.  A maximum of two passes will be allocated for each successful ballot entry.  Passes will be confirmed, via email, the week commencing April 15th, 2019.  We sincerely apologize in advance to those who are unsuccessful and encourage attendance at the Dawn Service (see below) as capacity is not limited and the event is open to the public. Thank you for your understanding.

Venue: ANZAC Memorial Garden, Level 7, British Empire Building, Rockefeller Center, 620 Fifth Avenue, New York City (entry on south side of West 50th Street)
Access: Photo ID required as a condition of entry, bags may be searched
Dress: Military – service dress or equivalent with medals. Civilian- respectful attire, please come prepared for cold or inclement weather

Anzac Day in NYC 2019

Thursday, April 25th

Dawn Service, hosted by the New Zealand and Australian Consuls-General
In 2019 the Australian and New Zealand Consulates in New York will co-host the Dawn Service, which is free and open to the public. This is a traditional memorial service and the main Anzac Day event that members of the public are encouraged to attend. Guests are welcome to bring flowers or tributes to place at the Memorial at the end of the event.

Date & time: Thursday April 25, from 5.45am – 6.30am, arrive by 5.30am as it gets crowded
Venue: Vietnam Veterans Plaza, 55 Water St, Financial District
Dress: Military – service dress or equivalent with medals. Civilian – respectful attire, please come prepared for cold or inclement weather as it’s an open air venue
RSVP: None required, service is open to the public as space is not limited.
Catering: Light refreshments will be available, including a selection of Boundless Plains espresso, coffee, tea and hot chocolate, as well as Anzac bites and date scones from Boomerang Bites.

Morning Tea at Boundless Plains Espresso After Dawn Service
If you’re looking for a place to gather with your mates after the Dawn Service, stop by Boundless Plains Espresso where Anzac bites by Boomerang Bites will be available. Both businesses are proudly owned by Australian women.

Discount Flat Whites at Bluestone Lane After Dawn Service
Bluestone Lane’s 90 Water St location will open earlier than usual at 6am, offering $1 flat whites after the Dawn Service, until 8am. Follow their blog for further updates.

Anzac Day and Veterans’ Lunch, hosted by the American Australian Association
Our parent organization, the American Australian Association, is hosting this lunch to celebrate and recognize the universal qualities of courage, “mateship” and sacrifice made by all Australian, New Zealand and American service personnel who have fought and been lost at war, and as a fundraiser for the American-Australian Veterans’ Fund (AAVF).

Date & time: Thursday April 25, Reception 12:00 – 12:30 pm, Lunch 12:30 – 2:00 pm
Venue: Cipriani Wall Street, 55 Wall Street, Manhattan
Attire: business attire/mess uniform

Drinks with the Kiwi Club of New York
If you’re planning on attending the Anzac Dawn Service, you can end the day with drinks and a bite to eat with a few friendly fellow Kiwis at Cafe Daniello’s. This event also serves as the AGM for the Kiwi Club.

Anzac Day “Bonds of Mateship” Drinks
The Australian Community is inviting its members and their guests to attend informal drinks at Beckett’s Bar & Grill, to continue the tradition of remembering fallen Australians. A cash bar and food is available for order for those who also wish to eat.

Anzac Day Breakfast and 2Up at The Australian NYC

The American Australian Association invites members and friends to the Anzac Day 2019 Commemorative Service. Reception to follow, guests are invited to bring a plate to share.
