Jo Black

Jo Black, owner of Boundless Plains EspressoJo Black is the founder of cafe and Aussie coffee spot, Boundless Plains Espresso. A former lawyer who chose to pursue her love of food, Jo’s FiDi spot focuses on providing superior quality espresso, delicious and nutritious Australian café style food, all delivered with a smile.

After moving to NYC two years ago with her husband, Jo opted to use her business skills first hand to fill the void of decent, community-based and “local” coffee shops in New York, especially in FiDi.

Jo had also identified that although there are numerous examples of Australian coffee shops in New York, very few are run by Australian women. Jo really wanted to make a mark as a female entrepreneur, to set an example for her children about working hard and creating something.

Brett Howlett

Brett_HowlettBrett Howlett, founder of You Are What You Sleep, has worked in the marketing and advertising industry for more than 20 years. First as a Designer and Art Director, then Writer and Creative Director. All this, between Australia (where he was born) and America, for clients ranging from start-ups to billion dollar corporations.

His dislike of having any spare time, and his love of storytelling, drove him to write plays and screenplays, producing a few of the former. As it turns out (hindsight is a wonderful thing) it was due to a spectacular lack of sleep that led to health issues…and an entirely new career in natural sleep health products; in particular, bedding. Today he runs the company he built online, from the ground up, with his bare hands: You Are What You Sleep.

Who says history doesn’t have a sense of irony?
