Hello spring! Thankfully the warmer weather has arrived and seems to be sticking around. For this month’s AWNY Mums and Dads update for April, I have a recap of the month’s event, the details of two upcoming events and also a shout out to The New York Times for their kid friendly weekend guide.
Our April event, ‘An Evening of Astrology’ was a little different from our usual style of events. Myself, Amanda and five other women learned about our sun, moon and rising signs and how according to Astrology, these can help explain our relationship ups and downs with loved ones and colleagues. All in all, it was a very interesting evening with each of us looking for recommendations for further reading. Thank you again to Toni Short for sharing her knowledge and home with us.
The next two events, which will be Amanda and my last before we transition to the new Mums and Dads team, will be held on June 3 and July 1. For the June 3 event, we are planning brunch at Gallow Green at the McKittrick Hotel, which coincidently is both Amanda and my favourite rooftop in New York. It’s like a garden above the city. Then on July 1 we plan to meet at Tavern on the Green, for an afternoon drink. The Tavern, in my opinion, has one of the nicest outside spaces for a relaxing afternoon beverage. Details about these events will be up on Facebook shortly. Watch this space!
I’ve been posting it fairly regularly on the Mums and Dads facebook page but the New York Times ‘7 things to do with your kids in NYC this week’ is really worth reading. Published electronically on a Friday morning, the ‘things’ are different to those I usually see on Timeout, Mommy Poppins etc. Thanks to this update, I’m seeing a play ‘The Little Red Fish’ with my children this weekend and will definitely be visiting the free LEGO exhibit at Scandinavia House.
Finally, another reminder about the AWNY Annual General Meeting on Tuesday May 15 (please note the date change) with volunteer nominations and RSVP required by Monday May 7. AWNY provides such a good opportunity to learn new skills, help fill a gap on a resume and in the process meet a bunch of awesome like-minded women. Please don’t hesitate to contact Amanda or myself through the Facebook page or via awny@aaanyc.org if you’d like to ask us any specific questions. Failing that, we’ll hopefully see you at the AGM!
