Thankfully by the time this has been posted my children will be back at school after a two-week break. I didn’t understand how exhausting school holidays were but I get it now. I am very thankful to my children’s school for exhausting them on a daily basis, so I don’t have to! I have a few things to tell you in the AWNY Mums and Dads update for March 2018. We’ve had a busy month for events, with the AWNY Mum’s dinner at Flinders Lane and the Mums and Dads Easter Egg Hunt. I also wanted to mention this year’s AWNY AGM and an intriguing upcoming event.
Our first event, the AWNY Mum’s dinner was on the Lower East Side at Australian restaurant, Flinders Lane. It was a good turn out for a Monday night, with 10 people turning up for three courses of delicious food and BYO wine.
I have been looking forward to our second event since we held it last year! After some dicey weather over the last few weeks, we had the best weather of the year so far (except for that random 23 degree celsius day in February!). We had about 100 people attend the hunt below the River Run Playground in Riverside Park, Manhattan. The children were so patient waiting for the hunt to begin but in about 3 minutes it was all done and dusted. As with last year, everyone was very generous, so each child managed to find a good amount of eggs. Most people stayed for a picnic afterwards and both Amanda and I enjoyed meeting and catching up with you all. Already looking forward to next year!
I wanted to remind you of the AWNY AGM which will tentatively be on May 14th (we will confirm the date as soon as we can). Amanda and I are both moving onto different things this upcoming year and we’re looking for some new Mums and Dads Coordinators to nominate for the position at the AGM. Amanda and I won’t be disappearing and will help with the transition and beyond. If you’d like any further information, please contact us through Facebook or awny@aaanyc.org
Our next event will be on April 10 and it is a little different from our usual events. One of our AWNY members, Toni will be introducing us to astrology through An Evening of Astrology, co-hosted with Australian Mums and Dads in NYC Group. She swears by it and feels it has changed her life, so we’re interested to learn a bit more! For more information please see the Mums and Dads Facebook page.
Let’s hope the weather keeps getting a bit warmer. C’mon spring!
