Celebrate the end of summer with AWNY at the Met Summer Rooftop Drinks event! Aussie and Kiwi ladies are invited to join us on Friday, September 6th, from 5:30 PM onwards for an evening of refreshing drinks, breathtaking Manhattan views, and captivating art.
This year, The Met’s rooftop features the highly anticipated 2024 Roof Garden Commission by renowned Kosovar artist Petrit Halilaj. Halilaj’s work explores the intersection of reality and fantasy through the vibrant and imaginative world of children’s drawings. Known for his immersive installations, Halilaj transforms personal and collective histories into complex artistic expressions that champion freedom, intimacy, and identity.
For this special commission, Halilaj has transformed furtive children’s drawings into three-dimensional metal sculptures, each retaining the essence of the original sketches. These sculptures collectively evoke the collective memory and imaginative power of generations of students affected by the traumatic conflicts and territorial divisions of the Balkan wars in the 1990s. This poignant and beautiful artwork reflects on childhood, education, and resilience.

*Cost: Admission to the Met. For NY State residents, there’s a pay-as-you-wish option ($5 or $10 is usually suggested). Visitors outside of NY State pay an admission fee of $30/ adult.
