World Premiere of Picnic at Hanging Rock The Musical

“Picnic at Hanging Rock” is a compelling new musical adaptation of the mysterious disappearance of three schoolgirls and a teacher on Valentine’s Day, 1900, and its profound impact on those left behind.

The story oscillates between the prestigious Appleyard College for Young Ladies and the dramatic landscape of Hanging Rock, also known as Ngannelong by its traditional language groups. Since the novel’s release in 1967, this enigmatic tale has captivated audiences, inspiring various adaptations, including Peter Weir’s iconic film.

The world premiere on July 25 will showcase selected songs from the upcoming stage musical, based on Joan Lindsay’s renowned Australian novel “Picnic at Hanging Rock.” This novel gained international fame through Peter Weir’s film and was later adapted into an Amazon Prime series starring Natalie Dormer.
