Five Bars for Booze-Free Fun During Dry January

Whether you’re joining the hordes of people declaring Dry January or just want some booze-free fun, New York City has lots of places for you to enjoy a mocktail (or two) without the morning-after headache.

  1. Hekate (167 Avenue B): At this dive bar located in the East Village, you’ll find all sorts of alcohol-free cocktails, beers, and more. Hekate is an intimate sober bar and specialty tea shop fueled by feminine energy, designed for those who seek the alchemy of herbal elixirs. It’s an intimate community place for anyone who might appreciate an alternative to bars. Try one of their alcohol beers or a delicious cocktail like ‘The Healer’ (Apothekary’s Blue Me Away, lemonade, seltzer and lavender simple syrup).
  2. Jungle Bird (174 8th Avenue): This Chelsea bar has an awesome zero-proof drinks menu, so you won’t feel left out during happy hour. Try ‘The Stripes,’ a blend of Belvoir elderflower cordial, Fever-Tree yuzu lime soda and lime with a plate of their Taiwanese-style fried chicken.
  3. Talea Beer Co. (Williamsburg, Cobble Hill, West Village & Bryant Park): A woman-owned brewery that also makes a range of non-alcoholic beers. They rotate by season, but there’s always something alcohol-free on draft like, ‘POM POM PARTY’, a sour ale that the makers describe as “Purply Jolly Ranchers and fizzy goodness”.
  4. Lord’s (506 LaGuardia Place): We don’t normally think of British pubs and restaurants as being booze-free friendly, but this bistro has a dedicated teetotaling menu to wet your whistle. Pair your Divino Negroni Sbagliato with a curried lamb scotch egg or duck pie.
  5. La Devozione (75 9th Avenue): Winter means carb loading, right? This pasta mecca located in Chelsea Market can give you your fill of spaghetti AND a beautifully mixed mocktail. We want to try the ‘Amore Tropicale’ (banana, passion fruit and ginger beer) with a plate of steaming bucatini alla matriciana.

Want to stay in and embrace hygge? Head to one of the alcohol-free stores in the city, like Boisson, to grab your mocktail mixers and alcohol-free beers.
