60 over 50, 60 paintings from 50 Years of Australian First Nations Art

AWNY members were extremely fortunate to attend an exclusive private collection view and tour of 60 over 50, 60 paintings from 50 Years of Australian First Nations Art, from the collections of Steve Martin & Anne Stringfield, and John & Barbara Wilkerson on 20th May.

Vanessa Merlino, Head of Research at D’Lan Contemporary, led the tour.

There were four rooms of Indigenous works, and Vanessa walked us through the background of each of the rooms. The first presented a select group of minimal Western Desert masterworks from Papunya Tula Artists, the second room dedicated to Emily Kame Kngwarreye, and the third was a group of early boards from the 1970s, predominantly from the Wilkerson Collection. The largest and final room was a select group of both recent and historical paintings from across the different regions of Australia’s First Nations art movements.

Thank you to D’Lan Contemporary for hosting this tour.

Please note that D’Lan Contemporary opened a new gallery in New York City on the Upper East Side near The Met.
